Afshin Taghavi Nasrabadi

Full Name:  Afshin Taghavi Nasrabadi

School:  University of Texas at Dallas

Program: Ph.D. in Computer Science

Hometown: Tehran, Iran.

Your Role for the summer: I am an Engineering intern at Pixvana. I work on designing and developing tools for subjective and objective quality evaluation of 360° videos.

Why Pixvana and what about the space interests you and what your first experience in VR was: My Ph.D. research is about improving Quality of Experience in video streaming applications from legacy videos to 360° videos. Since Pixvana is working on the newest 360° video streaming methods, it is a great choice for me. Moreover, I really enjoy working with the amazing team at Pixvana. Similar to many people around the world, My first experience in VR was watching a rollercoaster video!

Favorite part about living in Seattle for the summer: I really enjoy the weather in Seattle.

If you could have anyone – living or dead, real or fake over for a dinner party who would you have over and why: I’m a music nerd! I would like to have the great Rachmaninoff over.

Raina Chauhan

Full Name: Raina Chauhan

School: Chicago Booth School of Business

Program: MBA

Hometown: Bellevue, WA

Your Role for the summer: I’m the intern on the Marketing team, and am helping out with website content, email marketing, and competitive analyses.

Why Pixvana and what about the space interests you and what your first experience in VR: My career has mostly been in the online video space and after seeing the growth of online video on Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms in the past few years, I believe VR is going to be the next medium that will have a similar impact on society. What drew me to Pixvana was that it’s helping this space grow by lowering the barrier to content creation. My first experience with VR was at my friend’s house playing with the Oculus Rift. We played the rock climbing and Rick & Morty games, and I made a Facebook call to one of my friends with my avatar. It was so cool!

Favorite part about living in Seattle for the summer: Being outside and taking advantage of the gorgeous weather.

If you could have anyone – living or dead, real or fake over for a dinner party who would you have over and why: Hasan Minaj because I think he’s one of the smartest, funniest comedians to break through, and we’d be laughing non-stop throughout dinner.

Ali Cunlisk

Full Name: Ali Cunlisk

School: University of Washington

Program: BA Communications – 2018 Grad

Hometown: Seattle, WA

Your role for the summer: I am the Content Marketing intern – I have my primary focus on the Pixvana Blog, our social media accounts and press releases.

Why Pixvana and what about the space interests you and what your first experience in VR: Growing up in Seattle has naturally made me a tech nerd and because of that this space was really interesting to me because VR is at the forefront of its time and I wanted to be immersed in this field when the industry explodes! My first experience with VR was at the TOMS store in Los Angeles. They have an in store experience where they put you in a headset and you get transported to where their donated shoes go and give you the opportunity to be immersed within the cultures and communities.

Favorite part about living in Seattle for the summer: The water! I love being so close to the water and being able to enjoy so many fun activities that we only have for such a limited amount of time each year!

If you could have anyone – living or dead, real or fake over for a dinner party who would you have over and why: Michael Scott because there would never be a dull moment.

Ananya Parthasarathy

Full Name: Ananya Parthasarathy

School: Yale University

Program: Computer Science and Psychology  Standing: Junior

Hometown: Bellevue, WA

Your role for the summer: This summer, I’m working as a Marketing intern for Pixvana’s money team. My internship’s main focus is working on the website, creating content for both the website and the blog. I’m also learning a lot about website optimization.

Why Pixvana and what about the space interests you and what your first experience in VR: My ultimate goal right now for after college is to work somewhere in the intersection of technology and art/multimedia. I went into this summer with the intention of learning more about that space, and Pixvana seemed like the perfect place to do that. I hadn’t had much previous experience with VR, but the first time I used VR was at school, using 5 dollar cardboard headsets to try VR meditation with a company that was hoping to bring VR to my school’s mental health program

Favorite part about living in Seattle for the summer: Getting to spend time with my family while I’m here, and enjoy the humidity-free heat

If you could have anyone – living or dead, real or fake over for a dinner party who would you have over and why: If I had to pick one person, I’d probably invite Jon Stewart. He’d definitely liven up a dinner party! Plus, now that he’s not on television anymore, there are a lot of current and recent events I’ve been dying to hear his comedic take on.

Shashank Raman

Full Name: Shashank Raman

School: Bellevue High School  Standing: Senior

Hometown: Issaquah, Washington.

Your role for the summer: Mainly focused on developing automating testing for Spin Studio and Spin Play, along with other engineering tasks to improve both tools’ accessibility.

Why Pixvana and what about the space interests you and what your first experience in VR: This summer, I wanted to get some industry experience in order to prepare me for a college and professional career in computer science, which I am more or less set on pursuing. I did some research and found a handful of smaller companies in the area that focused on technology I found interesting. Since VR is one of the fastest growing commodities in the tech field and has applications in the real world that I find fascinating, I decided to join Pixvana as an Engineering intern. My first experience in VR was when I was introduced to the HTC Vive at a programming convention at Microsoft a couple of years ago.

Favorite part about living in Seattle for the summer: I have always lived here

If you could have anyone – living or dead, real or fake over for a dinner party who would you have over and why: Probably Samuel L. Jackson since he’s one of the most entertaining and fashionable people I know of and can definitely keep people laughing until they leave.
